Introductions

Overlaid the jeepers uselessly much excluding everyday life.

It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth. Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum decided to leave for the far World of Grammar.

Leadership

I love working in a design leadership role—managing, teaching, mentoring, hiring, and training. I'm passionate about putting designers in positions where they can shine, grow, and create wonderful experiences for users.

At Yammer, I lead the entire design team for over 3 years, growing it 13 designers. My team built award winning apps for web, desktop, iOS, Android, & mobile web.

Leading Design Teams

  • Experience growing and managing teams of up to 13 designers. I also have experience mentoring researchers.
  • Build design team relationships with executive leadership, clients, contractors, and internal cross-functional teams.
  • “The Driver” — Regularly lead teams facing the pressure to successfully launch a well-designed product on time.
  • “The Fixer” — Often tapped to turn around teams with morale problems and poor reputation within the company.
  • Collaborate on with leadership colleagues on design and product strategy.Evaluate designs, provide direction, and push teams to ship the best product they can.
  • Scope, prioritize, and plan product roadmaps in close collaboration with Product and Engineering leadership.

Mentoring

  • Provide guidance and career management to senior designers, helping them define their personal path and identity as a designer — identifying areas of strength to share with the larger team and areas of weakness to improve.
  • Mentor junior designers, bringing them up to speed on process and techniques, as well as general design principles and best practices.
  • My goal is to understand each individual - motivations, strengths, weaknesses - and assess how I can add value. I make sure my team is always clear on goals, is thinking creatively and executing diligently. I encourage, challenge, support, and clear the way so they can do their best work.

Setting a High Bar for Quality

  • I push my teams to think deeply about craft, and prioritize the right tools and environment to help them execute at their highest level.
  • I run formal design critiques, while also establishing an open culture around feedback.
  • I still design. Whether I'm managing a team or not, I believe in leading by example when it comes to quality design.

Recruiting

  • I enjoy finding and developing talent, and bringing together the right mix of people at the right time. This includes painting an inspiring picture, encouraging intelligent risk taking, and then getting out of their way.
